FCOP International UPDATES

Kun’s Story

My name is Chum Kun, I have three brothers and a sister, my parents passed away when I was 7 year old. My father was cursed by a witch doctor and he died. I don’t know what really caused his death. My mother was very distressed, and within a few months she just fell down, like she had fainted, and she also died.  Then, in that time, I had no place to go and to live so, I moved with my three brothers and one sister to live with my uncle when I was seven years old. Even though they are poor, …

The Holy Spirit Lives!

“Hey! It’s ok! Jesus can come back now!” He said in Acts 1:8, “…you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you; and you will be witnesses to Me…to the ends of the earth.” Now, I can’t guarantee that we were there, but I’m pretty sure, from a high hill, on a clear day, you can see it (the end of the earth) from there! The short video you watched in the link was shot by Pastor Tim Nalley from “The Father’s House” in Vaccuville, CA, USA. He came with a team lead by Bill …

Don’t Die Here!

Miracles are God’s calling card. It’s like he hands it (the miracle) to you and says, “This is who I am!” He gave us the Holy Spirit for that very purpose and told the church leaders not to leave town without Him. Why have we (the church) gotten so dumb? If Jesus needed the Holy Spirit, why do we think we don’t? We had two separate meetings of church leaders for the very purpose of re-emphasizing the point that Jesus made 2000 years ago, “Don’t leave town without It (Him)!” When the meetings moved to Phnom Penh it involved mainly …

Cracker Juice or Mud?

It’s been drier than cracker juice! One of the hard facts that is finally being reported in the news is the “Super El Niño.” Agriculture Departments in Thailand, Vietnam, and now finally, in Cambodia, are calling on farmers to plant late and use the low yielding but hardier, traditional varieties of rice seed. Banteay Meanchey Province, the location of our rice farm, has had fire trucks delivering water to drought stricken communities. My only concern about this bit of panic is that, all too often, conventional wisdom is wrong. God knows more than the weather forecasters! On the last day …

Good Food, Good Health

The good ole’ USA! We’ve given Cambodia Burger King, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Dominos Pizza and made a few of our staff, and a lot of Cambodians, gain some unhealthy weight. The timing couldn’t have been better for two 40 foot containers to come in and force us into a much needed workout in blazing hot weather. We managed to sweat off a few pounds, since the 44 tons had to be handled four times in order to get it to the final users. 1) It is off-loaded at the main highway onto our trucks. 2) It is off-loaded again into …

Crunch Time!

Well, it’s crunch time for FCOP! The government’s “New Standards” are supposed to be in force. The Cambodian government deserves a lot of credit for trying to develop Cambodia but they often are influenced by the wrong people. Because the government lacks the money, organizations that come with funding are often given undue influence. They want a new system for caring for separated children, but have no viable alternative; they simply want to destroy what is there. FCOP has worked tirelessly to meet these “New Standards.” We have relocated about 25% of our children to relatives and smaller homes, refurbished …

Miracle Healing

Miracles are God’s business card. It’s like He is saying, “This is who I am!” It would be impossible for us to have seen the Cambodian church grow like it has without the demonstration of God’s power. Not everyone we pray for gets healed, but when something really dramatic happens it get’s a lot of attention. A woman wandered into the Chom Chao church three weeks ago. She was not a believer in Christ and had been bleeding for more than ten years. She came forward and Mak Sou prayed for her. She received Christ and announced that she was …

Helping Poor Families

FCOP is a church and has always run “Church Homes.” The Bible is clear in Psalms 33:3, “Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.” We will never turn our backs on this, no matter how politically incorrect it becomes. The problem is, we have to function under a government that has swallowed a deceptive lie, that residential child care is bad, and we’re under a mandate to meet the “New Standards” by March 2016. The goal is to reduce the number of children in residential care by 30%. That means we have to find good …

New Standards

It is a good idea to have an option before you burn your house down. Most senior government officials admit that they do not have a “Plan B”. None-the-less, we are making the physical changes needed, many of the ‘standards’ are good, like beds and foam mattresses, except where kids are used to mats, and they claim the foam is too hot. You’ll find them pulling their blankets off the bed and sleeping on a straw mat on the floor. We are having to build a separate building to house our college age young men and women who are attending …

Devilish Lie

The word “Orphan” has almost become politically incorrect. Organizations worldwide are scrambling to remove “Orphan” from their name.  The concept pushing this is called “Behavior Change Marketing”. Basically it leaves few survivors. The program involves “guilting” the people you want to change. It was the method used by hotels; when you go to a hotel and see the card on your bed asking you to “Save the environment” by not changing your sheets and towels. If you don’t do it you feel guilty, and if you do, you feel like a hero, and the hotel makes money. This method is …

New Churches

We are continuing to build church facilities. There is a need of many more as large groups of new Christians need a place where they can gather for training and worship. We have three under construction at present. All of them are located in poor, rural areas.

Two Great Teams

Two great teams came to help us with this rebuilding in January. Life Center from California rebuilt the remote church home at Prey Konlong, and Living Water Church from Washington rebuildt the home at Tumnup Island. We also had local teams go out to Kratie and  Dam Na Thmai. These crews did us a tremendous service, and will go a long way towards helping us meet the new government requirements.
