Prek Bey

Prey Bey

The Prek Bey Church Orphan Home is located in the Pursat Province. The home is set in a remote village surrounded by wooden and grass dwellings, travel to the home becomes difficult during the rainy season. One must travel by ox cart or motor-bike to reach the home, as there are no roads large enough for a full-size vehicle. The majority of the workers in the Prek Bey village are loggers. They cut and log a tree called clum used by the Thai to create a beautiful perfume. Clum is found on the Kravine mountain. The villagers that are not loggers try their hand at agricultural work. They grow fruits, vegetables, and rice. Life throughout the countryside is often difficult. Flooding in the wet season, and periods of draught during the dry season take their toll on the rice crops each year. AIDs is the leading cause for death in this area. The deadly virus is spread through out the family, leaving many children orphans. 90% of the children living in the Prek Bey home are AIDs orphans.

The Prek Bey home was dedicated in 2004. Every morning, the children from the home begin their day with a morning devotional. After the time of bible study, worship, and prayer, they eat breakfast. Some go to school in the morning, and others attend school after lunch. When the children are not in school, they might help with house chores, take a nap, or play. The children enjoy playing soccer, Cambodian games, and learning traditional dances. Everyday, the children study English at a class held in the home. After studying English, the kids participate in the evening devotional. They review their lessons before going to sleep.
