Mushroom lead out of poverty

DSC_0235

Mushrooms are a decent micro-enterprise, but take a high degree of skill to produce. Mushrooms are fussy! You need good spores and a deep, moistened sand floor, thatched roof, shade, the correct sawdust to grow in, reduced heat through periodic spraying, correct moisture, and very little light. But when those sawdust logs start putting out daily harvests of large quantities of salable mushrooms every day, for several months? Everybody! All together now, “It’s about time!” It is a great way for uneducated villagers, or young people who want to escape the trafficking trap, to earn a decent living.
