Pastor Training

Training Never Ends Here

Training never ends here. Our main focus is on training pastors on how to “hear God”. We’ve seen pastors who can’t read and write their own language be able to minister effectively by listening to the Holy Spirit. In fact they are some of our most productive pastors. FCOP is a great believer in teaching the written word, but we’ve found few that teach methods to enable people to actually hear his voice, and none that teach it in a Cambodian context. We are working on that, and it appears we will wind up developing our own curriculum, as there are so many cultural aspects that either become irrelevant in translation, or meaningless. Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice and another they will not follow.” What part of that don’t we believe to be true?

This month Sou brought in another group of pastors, and with the help of our intern, Hannah Lee, took them one more step down that path. It is hard to explain the differences between the Christian Experience in Cambodia and the developed “Western” Countries. In the West the people seem to have a very similar religious experience to those who were on earth when Jesus was here (as in the four Gospels). Not in the negative sense, “Pharisaic sense”, but in being based on the written word. In Cambodia, the experience is based more on the revealed word. What our pastors actually hear God say, more like the book of acts. Some of our effective pastors can neither read nor write.
