Rice Farm Development

Though the damming of rivers has been a game changer for the Rice Farm, we have to push forward with our development. Watch FCOP Video . The first crop was destroyed by drought and the second crop (though successful), ran short of any water in the height of the wet season and failed to fill completely, leaving us with a reduced yield. The solution to drought lies in retaining the rainfall in reservoirs to be successful in raising two crops of rice per year. This is a major new development that will take years to complete and cost several hundred thousand dollars. It is a model for the future of  Cambodian agriculture which cannot survive under current conditions. We must plan for a local solution as well as pray that the Cambodian government can negotiate some restraint on behalf of our neighbors to the North to not retain so much rainfall behind the dams they are building for hydro-electric production. We are pleased that our new storage and drying facility is completed. There is no point in raising rice if we can't store it. We just wish it was full! FCOP is looking at alternative crops and livestock production.
