Sucker Punched!

Easter is about the greatest “sucker punch” in history! Just when it looked the darkest, God knocked the devil out with one great blow and set His church up to receive the power to carry on the fight. No matter how dark it appears, we’ve already won. Remember, it is always darkest just before dawn. God is ready for a sequel.

Easter and Christmas are FCOP’s most fruitful times for evangelism often with thousands of people coming to hear the good news of Jesus through hundreds of presentations around Cambodia. These usually consist of everything from elaborate dramatic productions of the Easter events to simple sermons at cell groups, with possibly a video presentation of “The Passion”. Yet again this year, because of CV-19 gathering restrictions, FCOP adapted the normally large Easter service at the National Training Center and held it virtually using Facebook Live. Several of our rural churches were also able to do live services using various social media platforms. Like other churches throughout the world, we’ve had to implement creative ways of doing weekly church services and have found that hosting online services are highly effective. Thanks to the availability of smartphones and increasing access to the internet throughout the country, we are able to reach over 1,400 church leaders each week.

This Easter, three of our teens, from the traditional dance team at Chom Chao church, were invited to participate in an Easter service via Zoom hosted by Christian Broadcasting Network Cambodia. The young women were asked to perform the traditional “Blessing” dance as part of the service. This was a unique opportunity that they will never forget.
