Sustainable Gardens
New gardens, fruit plantings, livestock purchases, and a lot of fencing has sprouted up in the last part of 2018 thanks to a grant from Children's Hunger Fund. Chomrong, our garden experimentalist, has been trying out different varieties of fruits and vegetables. He planted more than 2 dozen types of cabbage, to only get two to make heads. Root disease is a big problem for all gardens in Cambodia. Another huge factor is that we raise our best vegetables in the dry season, which is now. However, it is also a time of increasing day length. For some plants that work well in the northern latitudes during shortening day lengths, it means trouble!
