The Repairs Never End
With 106 church refuge centers throughout Cambodia, keeping up on building repairs is a constant task. FCOP’s Training Center in Phnom Penh houses two of the largest church refuge centers and both required some extra attention this month. FCOP staff worked hard to repave a driveway, remodel a bathroom, make some modifications to the windmill used to oxygenate the fish pond, and even constructed a building to protect our new generator from the damaging effects of acid rain. Due to increased rates of Dengue Fever, our staff took the opportunity to spray insecticide to kill any mosquitos that might be carrying the virus. With daily rain showers and high humidity, it creates the perfect environment for mosquitoes.
Many of our FCOP staff members were once orphans themselves that Mak Sou and I helped raise. We sent them to receive specialized training in areas such as IT, welding, electrical, and construction. We love that they’ve stayed on as staff members and are using their training to support the ministry and care for the next generation of orphaned and abandoned children. It is a legacy we hope will continue in this current generation we are raising. There is a long list of repairs that still need to take place at the Training Center and at church refuge centers around the country, but FCOP’s dedicated staff will accomplish them one at a time as funds become available.
