We Will Show You Our Faith By What We Do
"We will show you our faith by what we do!" That is the slogan phrase of FCOP Int. So, what do we do? Or, more importantly, why do we do it? The motive has always been to build the Kingdom of God. And, God gave us a very focused strategy on how to do that. The devil doesn't roll over and die just because some Christians pray. There is a spiritual struggle involved, and it is not easy. FCOP has the most extensive network of workers and locations able to provide care for children in trouble, in Cambodia. There are 6000 church groups where the Gospel of Christ is taught at some level. These 6000 "Home Church Pastors" are all connected to one of our 106 Church Homes. No other organization has that kind of network. And, FCOP is the most pro-family organization in Cambodia! We are constantly re-uniting separated kids with their families, and we have never done orphan tourism. FCOP believes that Psalms 146:8 is the key to our blessing: "The Lord watches over the strangers: He relieves the fatherless and widow; but the way of the wicked He turns upside down." So, FCOP takes in the orphans, widows, and homeless, separated children (the word "strangers" is referring to the homeless, and those left in a solitary, forlorn condition). And through this demonstration of our faith, God has built the largest organization of churches in Cambodia.
Now how does this break down? There is a statistic that is being circulated that 80% of children in orphan homes have at least one living parent. I don't know how that was determined? However, UNICEF and global partners define an orphan as a child who has lost one or both parents. That means, according to UNICEF, that 71% of the children in FCOP homes are orphans. Of the remaining 29%, 12% are abandoned and don't know if they have a living parent. The remaining 17% know they have parents but the parents have left for work in Thailand, or are divorced and remarried and neither want the children. Some, have a father in prison and the mother is either re-married or working in the sex trades. Look at the sidebar; This girl has family, we just don't know where they are.
In the USA approximately 0.009% of the children are in foster care. There is no foster care in Cambodia. On a place like Tumnup Island, if the same ratio applied as in the USA, that would mean 626 children would be in foster care. FCOP, the only child care organization on the island, takes care of 61 children (10% of the U.S. Rate). We get the real desperate cases. Pray for us! The struggle is on. The minions of non-theistic humanism are attempting to stop FCOP but our God is greater. I almost feel sorry for them.
