Ou Peut

The Ou Peut home is located in the Tonle Sap region with Thailand on its western border.
Pailin was under the Khmer Rouge control until 1997. Before the Khmer Rouge was integrated with the government, many battles took place in Pailin. The area was one of the strongholds of Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge Regime. Many of the residents were soldiers in the power struggle. There are many orphans in this District. Many children lost their parents in battle, and today many die from the landmines that still remain. There are a high number of Pailin people that have lost one or more limbs due to landmines.
In Krong Pailin there are precious stones including the red ruby (Pailin Ruby) and the blue sapphire. One of the most valuable assets of the region is the lumber, known as Teak wood. A typical day begins as the children awake. Before eating breakfast, the orphans participate in devotions. The school age children either attend classes in the morning or in the late afternoon. After lunch, most of the orphans take naps, play, study, and take classes in the home.
Later they eat dinner, take care of the garden and plants. After dinner, all the kids gather for evening devotions and Bible study. This is a special time of reflecting and discussing the day. In addition, it is not unusual for all the kids to join in a few songs of worship. Just before bed the kids review their lessons from school. It's eight thirty, time to sleep!
