Prek Touch
The Prek Touch Church Orphan Home is located in Kandal Province surrounds the capital Phnom Penh and extends all the way to the Vietnam border, encompassing both branches of the Mekong River, the Mekong and the Bassac.The Preaek Touch home is located on the shores of the Bassac River about 50 kilometers South of Phnom Penh. The majority of all Cambodian industry is located in Kandal province with garment manufacturing being the largest non-agricultural sector. The entire province is located on fertile flood plain and due to the proximity to the population center of Phnom Penh is a productive agricultural region. Vegetables, fishing, rice and livestock are all part of the productive mix. Kandal has the highest literacy rate in the country at 69 percent and the highest employment rate at 76.8 percent.The primary factor contributing to the growing population of orphans is AIDS. Many of the children lost one or both parents to this disease. Childbirth complications and diseases like TB are also frequent causes of children being orphaned in this district The Preaek Touch Home is one of the most beautiful church facilities in the country, with the steeple facing the Bassac River and visible a considerable distance up and down the river. The church, cut off by floods during several months of the year, relies upon the river as a primary life line to other areas.
A typical day begins with the children gathering in the mornings for devotions, and then attending school in the morning and afternoons. When all their homes chores and home work are completed the children love playing together.
