Greatest Need

People often ask, "What is your greatest need?" Seriously, it is the regular recurring monthly support of the Church Homes, now referred to as 'Refuge Homes'. Our monthly suggested support per home is $1500. That may be well over your budget, but could you give $100 per month? $10 per month? It can all be done on our website: www.fcopi.org . You may not be aware of a very serious effort by the UN to defund all institutional orphan care in two years. FCOPI falls into their 'Institutional' category. They want FCOPI replaced with foster care and adoption. The problem with this is that the UN does not understand karmic culture where orphaned children are considered cursed; paying for misdeeds in a prior life. Who wants to bring a curse into their home? There is not infrastructure in Cambodia to support or oversee foster care, and even in the US there are not enough 'good parents'. On New Year's Eve the Washington Post ran a story: "...in an era when a surging number of biological parents are falling into the grips of drug addiction and child welfare systems are struggling with a shortage of foster parents. In hasty attempts to address the problem, case workers and courts have been funneling children into crowded emergency shelters, hotels, out-of-state institutions and youth prisons — cold, isolating and often dangerous facilities not built to house innocent children for years. “We are just destroying these kids. They’re warehoused into emergency shelters, out-of-state institutions and juvenile detention centers, which can cause lifelong emotional trauma — their childhoods spent segregated from the outside world…" I think FCOPI’s "Homes of Refuge" are much better! Click here http://fcopi.org/give/ and please give and ask your churches to commit to regular support. This is a big deal for us.
