Dam Trouble
Eastern China is experiencing record floods, which as of July 29th, have affected more than 54 million people. With heavy rains still in the forecast, the massive Three Gorges Dam is reported to have water 50 feet above the warning level. If that dam fails, it could produce a "Black Swan" event of epic proportions. In stark contrast, the Mekong River which flows out of South Central China into Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam is at record low levels in Phnom Penh. Tens of thousands of hectares of rice are being replanted. Dam Video
FCOP sincerely thanks all who prayed for and shared our prayer request for rain on our rice in Balang, Cambodia. We depend on this rice for the care of 3,000 orphans, widows, separated children and staff in our 106 church refuge centers. The rice has passed the crucial stage for setting heads and 600 acres (240 hectares) are being replanted. We still have 250 acres of jasmine rice that needs water, and about 150 acres of traditional rice which we will wait on. We need rain, but we need the Lord's timing as we have to replant as well. Trucks are arriving from the Vietnam border with newly purchased season jasmine rice seed. Hopefully it is being planted by the time you read this. It is heart breaking to plow a crop under, especially one that had so much potential 4 weeks ago. We were one rain short. We never give up, but we need wisdom, and we have a plan that has been approved by our Board of Directors, we just need to find a source for funds. Please review the plan. You may know of some people or a group which could help us come up with a $658,000 grant or loan. We must complete this. Finally, if you can send some short term help, we could sure use it!
