Harsh Place to Build
Cambodia is a hard environment. Just the acid rain reduces 3/8 inch thick steel to rust in 5 years, then, when you add 20 to 30 kids to the mix, it gets really costly. We had a donor offering us $10,000 per church, and I can't believe I turned them down. (But 10 yeas ago they were giving us $36,000 without the land). We are building a new facility, and our cost will be close to $60,000US by the time it is finished. We built similar floor plans to what we are constructing now for that $36,000, but the roofing, doors and bathrooms were not sufficient to stand the test of time. We could build a $10,000 church and use cheap metal roofing, inferior concrete, low quality flooring, plastic doors and you have major maintenance problems in 2-3 years. Good stuff will last more than 10 years, but as they say, "You get what you pay for." This one will last!
