Home Floods
This really has been a dry year except for the past month, yet we still had dozens of our church homes flooded. This year a lot of flooding was due to the fact that development projects of the past few dry seasons did not provide for adequate drainage and many water catchment areas were filled in. We have a lot of drainage work to do and this little hiccup of rain in October sure pointed that out. We have structural damage to repair and just as we are stretched in every direction, with funds virtually cut in half due to COVID-19, the Government inspectors along with UNICEF showed up to inspect several homes. God gave us favor but the devil never sleeps.
Heavy rains caused one side of our retaining wall at the FCOP Training Center fish pond to cave in. This is due to the weight of the quick rainfall on the water soaked soil, forcing it to ooze under the concrete wall. Our staff immediately set to work to make the necessary repairs. They filled the caved in space with a mixture of large rock, gravel, cement, and sand. We are still in the process of repairing our damaged windmill which is critical for circulating oxygen in the water. FCOP’s fish ponds provide the essential protein sources for our kids’ diet. Each day the kids have some type of soup with either fried or grilled fish.
