Dancing for King Jesus
Traditionally, Cambodian dances were performed to honor god and the king. The young people of FCOP are using this traditional art form to worship King Jesus who is both God and King. It’s taking something that is culturally relevant in their society and using it as a means of evangelism and worship. We have several different dance teams made up of various age groups. They perform modern, traditional, and even tribal dances that come from the hills of Ratanakiri. The most recent dance performed was the Lord’s Prayer. It’s a beautiful dance unfolding the meaning of this important passage of Scripture. Every element of the dance from the movement of the body, the bending of the fingers, to the fabric and jewelry of the costuming helps to tell a story. When our young people perform as part of our church services and at different outreach events, ultimately they are dancing before an audience of One. It is to Jesus that they offer this beautiful gift.
FCOP strives to ensure that those in our care embrace and celebrate their culture. We do not want to turn them into Americans. We disciple our young people to become followers of Jesus that go out and make a difference in their nation through being productive members of their society.
