Finishing Well
Khiev Chham came to believe in God back in 1966 at age 23 through an unknown missionary working in Cambodia before the Khmer Rouge era. However, rural Pursat province, where he was living, didn’t have an established church. About 20 years ago, our district supervisor, Krew San, would travel to visit with believers in that community, and as fruit does, it multiplied! Last year, when Krew San and Mak were visiting after dedicating a new building in a nearby district, 120 new believers were there to greet them. Together, Krew San and Khiev Chham determined that they needed a building to escape the rain and sun. They decided to build a church. The only problem was that they didn’t have any money! The leadership began to collect offerings for a building fund. One church member donated a piece of land, others gave money, and Mak and Pa Thom gave a personal offering (Pastor Sou loves to spend our money). Construction began shortly thereafter. They named the building Foursquare Logoh Church and it serves as a center for thriving ministry and fellowship in the community.
In mid-August, Pastor Khiev seemed to know that his time on earth was coming to an end. He called his son and daughter to meet with him near his home. “Children, promise me that you don’t have any doubt that Jesus Christ is our Savior! I ask both of you to have faith and trust in Him. He will bless you!” After that, his daughter brought him a pillow so that he might lie down and rest. A short while later, a sense of urgency pushed him to walk to the church to encourage members to keep their faith and to trust in God only. He commissioned them to keep serving the Lord and to not be tempted by other religions. That afternoon, at around 3:30pm, on August 27, 2020, Pastor Khiev decided to lie down and rest in the church. He never woke up; his race was over. Early the next morning during his funeral, church members and villagers came to celebrate his life. (With 102 degree F/39 degree C temperatures and no embalming or refrigeration, you don't wait too long to have a burial). There were many villagers that heard the Gospel during the service and gave their lives to Jesus. It is because of leaders like Pastor Khiev that we are seeing Cambodia come to Christ. His legacy will live on through the Foursquare Logoh Church.
