One Crop for the Price of Two

In Balang, our rice producing part of Cambodia, 2019 has been record breaking dry, “wet season”. The lack of rain, plus the blocked water by the scores of dams in Laos and Thailand, has greatly impacted rice production this year. FCOP lost our first planting due to drought. We followed that with a quick decision to plow it under because it had passed a critical growth stage without producing a head. Fortunately, we replanted in time to catch a few beneficial rains, although we did plant some into mud.  Most of the other farmers got caught with their low producing old crop or, conditions too wet to plow for re-replanting (they don’t have our specialized equipment). Then just as we had our towers upper our new grain storage facility, a very strong hurricane force wind came and knocked it down into a twisted mess. This almost never happens in Cambodia. People in our area say they have never seen our river as dry as it is in 100 years. This is supposed to be flood season and the people in Balang have little to no water in their reservoirs. We are hauling 6000 liters of water to them daily from our new land and the six-month dry season is upon us. Pray we have enough water for the people and livestock to survive and that we have good rice with a good price. (watch our machines working)
