Rice Farm News

Planting has been the toughest part of the growing season in our 22 years. But, FCOP has had timely rains so far and the rice looks good. At present our concern is keeping it above water. Thanks to our workers’ continuous efforts, our dikes are stronger and higher than ever. Flooding is always a concern in September but we are running more than a month ahead of schedule for all our seasonal changes in 2021. Record rains in China threaten the upper Mekong but thankfully they are mostly east of the Mekong headwaters. We really need a good harvest! Please continue to pray for us!

Here at FCOP we are a collection of “Recycled Old Stuff”!  My car is 21 years old, our newest tractors are 40 years old, the ‘new’ bulldozer and excavator are 17 years old, and the one machine that seems to run the most is 63 years old. We have had it in Cambodia for the past 20 years and every year it does about 2,500 hours, mostly on irrigation pumping. That alone would put it at 50,000 hours and it was 44 years old when we got it! But, when you consider that the boss is 74, the manager is 53, and just suffered a stroke, all this stuff is in constant need of overhaul. It breaks and we repair it. This is a daily process for us, man and machine!

Paul Mok, the Rice Farm Manager, who just got back from the “repair shop” (hospital) for a check-up, would like to thank all of you who prayed for him in his own words:

“Thank you God for giving me a fresh life, meet good people especially me, and a good life for me that I don’t have and not poor. If I am poor, I may forget you, but if I am poor because of hunger, I will do bad things. Thank you God for making a way for me, and giving me a new life to escape death and thank you all for praying for me!”
