Medical Team to Cambodian Tribes

While I was on the “burial detail” of our dead early rice crop, the bulk of our office and district staff plus a team of medical professionals (including about 25 foreigners and 8 Cambodians), were engaged in bringing medical healing. More than 100 other staff evangelized, prayed for, preached to, and entertained the crowds of up to 1000 per day who came for help. In the process, they led thousands of the poorest Cambodians to glorious new life! Nine different tribal groups from the northeastern province of Rattanakirri came to the provincial capital of Banlung for free medical treatment. People …

Fountain of Life

Timely trimming is always beneficial when it comes to fruit production. I think we all get that, but has anyone ever asked the tree? “Rheeem, Rheeem, Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr” No! Not a chain saw! Chop, chop, saw, cut, ouch! Stop that! No, not that one! Timber! “Wow, I’d have never dreamed it, but it was rotten at the core!” The tree has to hate the process, but the results are worth it. Maybe I’m part tree? I know just how it feels. We lost a couple of key leaders to corruption recently, but new life is springing up all over Cambodia. Kong …

Orphan Playgrounds

Most of the kids under our care come to us with a load of emotional pain. It would be easy for them to become bitter or vengeful, but there is something about the synergy of a bunch of new brothers and sisters loving God and each other, that breaks the chains of pain. Of course, we help all we can with a “kid friendly environment”. We call these things “kid magnets” and thanks to a grant from the Foursquare Foundation and matching funds from Home of English, twenty new playground sets are being built in our regional orphan homes. Happy …

Sou’s Travels

“Curiosity killed the cat.” It’s an old maxim but I have a feeling the writer had more on his mind than dead cats. Human minds were the subject. If we have a knowledge vacuum, our natural tendency is to fill it with whatever fits our fancy. Rumors and gossip become the by-products. This human weakness was used to defeat the Khmer Rouge. Cambodians lacked any kind of normal weapon, so they relied upon the power of the rumor. At the end of the Khmer Rouge reign, more Khmer Rouge were being killed by the Khmer Rouge than Khmer Rouge killing …

There’s a Miracle in You!

We put this video together for the recent Foursquare Connection so that you can see the seamless integration of the Young Lions’ Spirit empowered ministry and our holistic approach to building the body of Christ. My daughter-in-law, Sandi Olbrich (Tony’s wife) wrote and performed the song, “Miracle.” If you like the song, you can download it from iTunes and other online music stores.

Mak Sou’s Blessing!

This was a month of meetings and celebrations. Cambodia New Year knocks out about half a month in terms of productivity. Mak Sou had some of the orphan kids come for a swim, and they had to first “Bless” her. Fortunately, we kept busy during the lull, with meetings and foreign visitors.

Urgent Needs Bring Great Fruit

We link Spirit led evangelism with the meeting of urgent needs (Titus 3:14). This is often done through the help of grant funding.  The fruitfulness which comes from moving in a way that connects people with God and also meets their needs is electrifying. The community sees how the church meets human need, and they are open to the Gospel of Christ. How do you connect crickets with the Gospel? Well, French fried crickets sell for $5.00 US per kilogram. District Supervisor Heang brings in local pastors and church members to train them in spiritual truth, but also sends them …

Heroes of FCOP

You live and learn. Roofs leak, fences break down, wood rots, and paint fades, cracks and mildews in our climate faster than in most. I started laying cedar shingles for my dad when I was seven. I put down my first tar roof at age thirteen, started with steel in my teens, done everything from thatch, to rubber, to plastic, to cement, to tile ever since. We had over six miles of fence to maintain on our dairy farm, and buildings that constantly needed repair from wear and the elements. Somehow, I graduated from cows, to pigs, to kids. Now, …

A Big Family

FCOP has raised and trained over 8,000 orphans in the past 13 years in addition to caring for thousands of widows. At any one time we have around 3,000 orphans under our care. A few orphans, due to their disabilities, will always be under our care. It is surprising to see those who become critics about orphan care due to the whole “dependency” issue. The very people who should be supportive, will grasp at that criticism for lack of a better handle – I have no clue as to motive. Although we’ve been caring for orphans for 13 years, I …

Hep “B” Cures

Good farmers learn how to maintain their equipment. The same is true with the Church, both the spiritual and the physical aspects need attention. The practical challenge of maintaining the physical body, through our Foursquare Foundation Hepatitis B  vaccination program, is proving to present a real challenge. Nearly everywhere we go, we are finding about five percent of the people test positive. It is a very infectious disease and eventually it has the ability to destroy the liver. There are medicines which can help control this disease, but they are expensive. We treat those we can, and pray for the …

Battling Decay

We fight a constant battle against the elements to keep our buildings in a good state of repair. Facility renovation for the Oral Church Orphan Home, funded by the Nutland family from Hong Kong, is an example of an ongoing, routine activity for FCOP. It all just goes to prove that the second law of thermodynamics was instituted by God. Stated in plain farmer terms: “Anything left to itself naturally turns to crud.” True for body, soul, and spirit.

Good News MOU’s

We just experienced another proof of the hand of God working through the power of prayer. Many of you are aware that all 106 of our Church Homes were up for renewal of their M.O.U.’s (Memorandum of Understanding) which are issued by the Ministry of Children’s, Youth, and Veteran’s Affairs, and gives each home a licensee to operate in Cambodia. (See Homes A – O) (See Homes P – Z) Because we openly lead people into relationship with Christ, we were strongly opposed by one Assistant Director who was in charge of our renewals. She was in a very close …
