FCOP International UPDATES

We Are Family

Kids from sixty some churches and home groups came to study music and dance with us this summer. It was truly transformational! They came in shy and afraid and left filled with confidence and new skills. Sunday, Sept 25th was graduation day. They made it special as they shared song and dance. Now, they go to infect a nation.

Revival

There seems to be a new revival spreading, along with the release of the teaching coming form the preparation and distribution of the “Catechism” (A small book explaining the basic beliefs) for the churches. Mak Sou started teaching specific aspects of it to the Young Lions and the Womens Ministry Leaders of multiple churches and it has started a fire even before it has been widely distributed. Reports of healings, deliverance, baptisms in the Holy Spirit, and water baptisms have been coming in from various places on a regular basis.

Havest Time

Great rice, lousy price. I believe we have some of the best rice in Cambodia, but we were hurt by lack of water control during a critical growth stage. Still we have a much better crop than I have seen elsewhere. But, it does show that the rice farm development program is crucial to our long-term sustainability. The strange thing is that with a generally poor crop in Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand, the price is 1/3 less than it was a year ago. Many farmers are protesting, by blocking roads with their equipment, and in danger of losing their farms …

Hep B Vaccines

We continue to work diligently on our Hepatitis B vaccination program. It is an important step as this is a potentially fatal disease if left untreated. A not so funny thing is that Tim and Dhana Wimberly received all three of their shots before they came to Cambodia, but when they had their blood checked they showed no resistance to the disease. I had the same problem 18 years ago! I’m beginning to wonder about US vaccines?? I was vaccinated here and my resistance is very high. Anyway, Thanks for the help!! We cannot do this without you!

New Cafeteria

Cambodia gets its share of droughts and floods but thankfully we are free of earthquakes and typhoon. We do get some strong gusts and one of them destroyed our cafeteria at the Dam Na Thmei Church/Home. We sent our own crew up there this month and it is now rebuilt along with a couple of new bathrooms.

From Gang Banger to Chief of Staff

Always precocious and very curious, Naret found himself running with group of older “gang bangers” on the streets of Phnom Penh in 1997. At age 13 he rarely stayed with his destitute family and desired the things that he could not afford. So, even though he was considered “too young” he took to the streets where his gang would fight turf wars with their rivals to control an area for the distribution of a drug called “Seesha”, a cannabis based narcotic. They would fight with wooden clubs and knives but things were spinning out of control. In 1999 Naret’s future looked pretty dim. People …

Never Give Up!

“Dirty devil rats die hard!” I am totally convinced the only way to defeat them is to be led by the Holy Spirit and never, never, never give up! I am also determined to never tip our hand to the enemy, so when good things start to happen, we really need your prayer covering because, “That Rat” is not happy. (For those of you who don’t understand baseball, I apologize!) It is the bottom of the ninth inning, your team is up to bat, bases are loaded and you are behind three runs. The problem is you are up to …

Keep Trying!

Many of our trials in life are not this dramatic, but in a sense, a lot more important than a ball game! Though they will never make the news, lives and souls depend upon the choices we make. Our rice crop is not in the bin yet. Throughout Cambodia the crop is generally poor, but ours is the best crop we’ve ever raised, possibly the best in Cambodia. Following two years of drought, with empty rivers and reservoirs, all the experts were advising not to plant until July. A group of traveling prophets told me, “The drought is broken!” in …

Catechism

Devils are like rats. You can knock them out, but they still stink! We’ve been working hard to get our “Catechism” (150 pages of basic beliefs) translated into Cambodian and published. We bait for rats every month. In my humble opinion, the only good rat is a dead rat! Just as we were pushing to complete this task of translation, one ‘dirty devil’ rat crawled up into our office attic rafters and died. We had twenty staff members with flashlights trying to find his stinking carcass, but to no avail. All we could do was hold our noses and spay …

Eye Clinic

Grinding poverty is a devil. And when you are sick, as well as poor, that is a rotten deal! Thank God for Excellency, Sean Ngu, one of the good guys in the Cambodian government! He brought in a team of ophthalmologists, and dental surgeons, from Japan and during a two-week period treated over 12,000 patients free of charge, performing 850 cataract surgeries, and many other difficult procedures. We brought in several busloads of those who could never afford such care and they are very grateful.

Young Lions

Our Young Lions are a bunch of “Rat Killers”! I love ‘em! Sixteen of them took off for Rattanakirri and brought in 200 youth from nine different tribes. Devils were cast out, sickness was healed and every one of them left saved, baptized in water, and filled with the Holy Spirit and power. A new revival has begun.

Pure Water

During these times of drought drinking water has been a precious commodity. In some provinces fire trucks were delivering water just to keep people alive. We took water out of ponds and cleaned it up through filtration in several locations. Scummy, smelly swamp water became as clean and clear as Avion. The most sophisticated system was at our rice farm in Balang where both workers and a church depend on water for life, with no wells in the community. The “Booshway Boys” from Lafayette, Colorado installed this system last fall, and we’ve never missed a good drink since then. We …
