FCOP International UPDATES

Kim Ngun’s Story

My name is Kim Ngun, I am a nine-year-old boy and I live at the Toule Serey, FCOP Church/Home.  I have never known my parents. I have been told that my mother gave me to someone to take care of me when I was one day old. My mother left me with this person at the hospital and never returned. To this day no one has any information about my parents. The woman who took me at the hospital had milk for me because she had a small baby also, she took me home but she already had many children …

It’s about Time!

“It’s about time”! On how many occasions have you heard this bit of encouragement after accomplishing something worthwhile? The problem is that anything worthwhile that you do in life is going to involve struggle. If your goals come easily they are probably not worth much. FCOP pastors and staff have been teaching at our 106 church/home locations for up to 18 years, along with overseeing thousands of other churches and home groups. Every day the pastors and staff have been teaching some of the 18,000 kids that have gone through our system; they have devotions, they participate in all the …

ECFA Certfied!

FCOP is finishing up our 18th year in Cambodia, what a ride it has been. We never realized how this ministry would grow, or we certainly would have started differently. At first we just were funded as missionaries, then as we started adding hundreds, and then thousands, of orphans we needed help. We partnered with a US based orphan care organization for about ten years, they had the 501(c)-3 rating, ECFA (Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability) approval, and all of that good stuff for donors like you. Then we had a parting of vision. Vision can unite and vision can …

Good Rice! Lousy Price!

The second half of our rice harvest has begun. We have one of the best rice crops in Cambodia, although it doesn’t look like it (see pictures). Everybody! All together now (including me :>), “It’s about time”! After three years of failure, that is more truth than ridicule. The problem is, that it is so good, and the weather so weird; the rains came late and the rice is so heavy it lodged into the water. It actually rained last night on the 5th of December! There is enough water for us to plant another crop on about 130 acres, …

Rock Free Rice

FCOP owns our own rice mill; we have for about 14 years. Our problem is that we have a rather basic, local commercial type, rice mill and it did not have stone extraction. If you’re ever eaten rice and broken a tooth on a rock, you will not be very happy with that miller! Most Cambodian’s put their rice in something like a giant bamboo pizza pan, shake it and throw it in the air, to sort out the rocks before they cook it. This year we finally got a rock extractor. Everybody! All together now, “It’s about time!” It …

Thanksgiving Feasts

I wound up in Illinois, USA, for Thanksgiving; that’s the first time that has happened in 18 years. Everybody! All together now, “It’s about time!” I was with two of my brothers, a sister-in-law, and nephews and friends. It was nice to be “Home”, but I missed the ‘real deal’ that Mak Sou hosted for our staff in Cambodia. She only had one 22-pound turkey, so they improvised and bought two goats. Those, plus the turkey and all the trimmings, produced quite a feast for all.

Mushroom lead out of poverty

Mushrooms are a decent micro-enterprise, but take a high degree of skill to produce. Mushrooms are fussy! You need good spores and a deep, moistened sand floor, thatched roof, shade, the correct sawdust to grow in, reduced heat through periodic spraying, correct moisture, and very little light. But when those sawdust logs start putting out daily harvests of large quantities of salable mushrooms every day, for several months? Everybody! All together now, “It’s about time!” It is a great way for uneducated villagers, or young people who want to escape the trafficking trap, to earn a decent living.

Bacteria and Rain

Water filters and playgrounds are needed at our church/homes. Water filters keep the kids healthy, and the playgrounds keep them happy. Playgrounds are “kid magnets” drawing an entire community to come to hear about Jesus. Our playgrounds, made with powder coated steel, start to rust through after about three years under our acid rain, and require constant painting and repairing. “Ol’e Bob and Crystal”, that’s Bob and Crystal Hollandsworth, have been doing a lot of maintenance this past month, not just on the playgrounds, but especially the water filters. Well water that looks clear is usually carrying some type of E. …

Thank You!

Wow! I need to personally say “Thank You!” to all the teams that came during November. You can all say, “Pa Thom, shame on you for picking on Bob and Christal! You’re a little slow”! On this we will all agree! Everybody! All together now, “It’s about time!”  As I look at the construction work done by Life Community Church, and the continual sacrifice from Dr. Mike Callan, Gary Houzenga  and the entire team from Church of the Open Door, I can only thank God for teams! Gary and his wife Lin spent their 50th wedding anniversary on a working …

Phun Sok’s Story

My name is Phun Sok, I am  a 13 year old male. My father name was Sok Chea, he died when I was 8, I am not sure what caused his sickness. My mother’s name is Mean Sok. She is a farm laborer, she plants and cuts rice. We have very poor rice crop for three years, so the farmers have little work for her. Before I come to stay in FCOP Home, my family is very poor and my mother doesn’t have money to send us to school and food to eat. My mother met a new husband, but he …
